Opening Night Film: Playland + shorts Admit One & Oral History
16 September 2023
107 Kingsland High St, London E8 2PB, UK
Put on your black caps, it’s time to join arms: we’re diving into the past for lost queer spaces. Taking a cue from the arthouse stylings of Fassbinder & Jarman, Playland presents an abstract resurrection of the Playland Cafe, which served Boston’s queer community for over 60 years before its closure in 1998. As trans & gender non-conforming performers restage a docufiction take on 6 decades of queer history through the stories of real Playland attendees, past and present collide with drag, theatre and queer cinema cultures.
Join us before the feature for our opening night intro to the fest, as well as 2 shorts that give love to the queer spaces around us and the communities that keep them alive.
